How to Care for Your Scarves: Wool, Pashmina & Silk

No matter the season, adding a scarf to your outfit always makes your look more stylish. Whether you like a wool scarf, a pashmina, or a delicate silk piece, there are easy ways to care for your scarf to keep it looking fresh and new. In this guide, we'll delve into the maintenance of three popular scarf materials: wool, pashmina, and silk.

Wool Scarf Care:

1. Gentle Handwashing: Wool scarves require a delicate touch. To clean them, opt for handwashing with a specialist wool detergent. Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add a small amount of wool-friendly soap. Gently agitate the water and immerse the scarf, allowing it to soak for a few minutes. Avoid excessive rubbing or wringing to prevent misshaping.

2. Air Dry Flat: After washing, reshape the wool scarf and lay it flat on a towel to air dry. Avoid hanging it, as the weight of the water may distort the shape. Once dry, use a fabric brush to gently fluff the fibres and restore the scarf's softness.

3. Wool-Specific Fabric Spray: To keep your wool scarf smelling fresh between washes, use our Knitwear Mist spray to refresh and protect from moths. This helps your scarf smell amazing and removes impurities.

4. Remove Bobbles: Use our cashmere comb to remove any fabric bobbles and pilling. Pull it gently along your fabric to keep your scarf looking less worn and new.

Pashmina Care:

1. Handwash with Care: Pashminas, often made from delicate fibres like cashmere, require a gentle touch. Handwash them in cold water with a mild detergent, such as our silk and delicates detergent. Avoid using fabric softeners, as they can damage the fibres.

2. Towel Blotting: After washing, gently blot excess water from the pashmina using a clean towel. Do not wring or twist the fabric, as this can lead to stretching or damage.

3. Dry Flat: Lay the pashmina flat on a towel to air dry. Keep it away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. Reshape it as needed to maintain its original form.

4. Pashmina Revitalization: Spritz your pashmina with our deodorising Clothing Spray in between washes, this refreshes the odours and helps you avoid over washing your scarf. Plus, the White Tea and Mint scent leaves your scarf smelling deliciously fresh.

PASHMINA SCARF CARE

Silk Scarf Care:

1. Handwash in Cold Water: Silk scarves should be handwashed in cold water using a mild detergent, such as out silk detergent (just like the pashmina scarf!). Avoid hot water, as it can damage the delicate fibres. Add 2-3 capfuls of the silk detergent and gently agitate the water and let the scarf soak for a short period.

2. Pat Dry: Pat the silk scarf with a clean, dry towel to remove excess water. Be careful not to rub or wring the fabric, as silk is fragile.

3. Air Dry Away from Sunlight: Lay the silk scarf flat on a towel to air dry. Keep it away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading. Silk dries relatively quickly, so check after a few hours.

4. Silk Fabric Spray: Use a silk-specific fabric spray to refresh your scarf between washes, our Crease Release On-The-Go and Steamer Water sprays help remove fabric crinkles, and the scent of Blue Lily and Bergamot makes the fragrance smell like fresh laundry.
